Heaven One

East Norriton Police Chief John J. McGowan III, 58, was fatally injured on Friday, June 18, 2010 while riding his motorcycle on Rt. 611, Fork Township, Lehigh Valley, PA.

John's life centered on his family, work and his love of motorcycles. John was the loving and devoted husband of wife Karen, proud father of sons, John J. IV and Scott. Grandfather of John J. V and Finn. Brother of three sisters, Debbie, Anita and Lisa. Loving son to parents Teresa and John J. McGowan II of West Norriton.

John started his 36 year law enforcement career with the Lower Moreland Township Police Department in 1974. John retired from Lower Moreland as a Patrol Sergeant in 1992 to become East Norriton's Chief of Police where he served honorably for 18 years. John was a graduate of the 164th Class of the FBI National Academy, served as President of the Montgomery County Police Chief's Association, as past President of the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Assoication and a member of the FBI Directors Law Enforcement Advisory Board. John was also a motivating force and worked closely with Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Ferman and Executive Director Abbie Newman to establish the Missions Kids Child Advocacy Center.

John was an active member of the Blue Knights International Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club, Pennsylvania Chapter 22. John's sudden transfer to Heaven One was an unexpected shock to all of us, he will truly be missed, fondly remembered and never forgotten.

Our deepest sympathy, thoughts and prayers are with the McGowan family and the men and women of the East Norriton Police Department. God bless you John, rest in peace.
